They suspend a Colombian judge who was caught half-naked in full hearing

Bogota.- The judicial discipline commission of the Colombian department of Norte de Santander (northeast) decided on Tuesday suspend for three months to a judge who appeared lying down, in her underwear and smoking on a bed during a virtual hearing.

The judge Vivian Polania incurred an “infraction” with his actions last week, which led to the opening of an investigation after the media and social networks covered the news and the video of the hearing went viral.

Polanía, 32, and who works as a Guarantee Control judge in Cúcuta, capital of Norte de Santander, participated in a request to revoke the security measure against one of those accused of an attack against an Army brigade in that city when he activated the camera on his computer in which he was seen in the controversial situation.

According to the suspension order, the judge appears at said hearing “with a deplorable image: with sleepy eyes, disheveled hair, lying on a bed, dressed in a black T-shirt and a gray jacket and half-naked, smoking and with obvious difficulty in articulation of the words he pronounces”.

According to various jurists quoted by the local press, Polanía’s attitude not only constitutes a breach of Justice’s decorum, since he was working hours, but also calls into question the seriousness of a power that is already enough questioned for its slowness and corruption in some cases.

It is not the first time that this judge has been involved in a controversy, since in 2020 she starred in another viral video in which she asked a lawyer not to “bother her anymore” and was criticized and questioned for it.
