now he was suspended for breaking a fan’s phone

(CNN) — Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was banned for two matches, fined £50,000 (about $60,090.25) and warned about his future conduct by the English Football Association (FA) this Wednesday.

Ronaldo was suspended by an independent Regulatory Commission for shoving a cell phone out of a spectator’s hand after the final whistle of Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Everton in April, according to the FA.

Merseyside Police issued a warning to the 37-year-old man as a result of the incident.

On Tuesday, Ronaldo and Manchester United announced that the two parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

The FA sanction will only have to be fulfilled if the Portuguese player signs with another Premier League club.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution over two stages at Old Trafford,” the club said in a statement posted on social media on Tuesday.

Manchester United had announced last week that they had “initiated the appropriate steps” in response to the star striker’s recent interview. Cristiano Ronaldo gave an interview to TalkTV’s Piers Morgan in which he said he felt betrayed by the club, expressed his lack of respect for manager Erik ten Hag and questioned whether he would return to the team.

In the TalkTV interview, Piers Morgan asked Ronaldo if the United hierarchy was trying to remove him from the club.

“Yeah, not just the manager (Ten Hag), but two or three other guys around the club. I felt betrayed,” he said.

“Yes, I feel betrayed, and I felt like some people don’t want me here, not just this year, but last year as well.”

Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United from Juventus for a second spell at Old Trafford in August 2021 on a two-year contract, returning to the club where he won eight major trophies between 2003 and 2009.

He is Portugal’s all-time top international scorer, winner of the Ballon d’Or award for best soccer player of the year five times (2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017), and the European Golden Boot four times (2007-08, 2010-11, 2013-14 and 2014-15).
