Gabriel Boric, president of Chile, arrives in Mexico

The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, arrived in Mexico tonight for his state visit to the country.

“It is an official visit with parliamentary members, with a delegation of Chilean businessmen; the objective is to deepen cultural, political and economic integration with Mexico,” said the president.

In an interview with the media after his arrival, he condemned the fact that the Peruvian Congress prevented President Pedro Castillo from traveling to Mexico to participate in the meeting of leaders of the Pacific Alliance, for which reason the leaders’ summit was cancelled.

“I find it unfortunate that the internal disputes that are due to deepen limit the possibility of a brother country in Latin America to participate in important spaces,” he said after his arrival.

He also described Mexico as “a great ally of Chile; we have a free trade agreement since 1999.”

According to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the objective of Boric’s visit is to talk about cooperation for development, Gabriela Mistral and Salvador Allende.

The arrival of the Chilean president was expected for Wednesday, November 23, however, he landed in Mexico one day in advance.

During your visit, also participate in the Pacific Alliance Summit, event that will take place in Oaxaca.

“We are going to deepen areas of the economy, such as tourism, and in education we have a tremendous post-pandemic challenge, which our government wants to take on urgently.”

Boric explained that tomorrow he will meet with President López Obrador and with the Senate of the Republic to have protocol meetings.

“I decided to come for a state visit; we have to see how we reinvigorate the agenda of the Pacific Alliance. (…) The Pacific is the center of the world, we have to strengthen that union,” he added.

For his part, Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard welcomed the Chilean president and his wife, Irina, Karamanos, to Mexico on his Twitter account.
