November 12, 2022.- The Secretary of Health, Virginia Sánchez Ríos, delivered 15 accreditations to members of the “Health and Well-being” Mutual Aid Group for Chronic Diseases (GAM-EC), attached to the Urban Health Center of the municipality of San Sebastián Tutla, for promoting adoption of healthy lifestyles in people with various conditions.
In the presence of the Deputy Director General of the Oaxaca Health Services (SSO), Sonia Eréndira Ramírez Luna; the general coordinator of the Health Jurisdictions, Fabio Cortés Joaquín and the director of the aforementioned Unit, Julio César Ramírez, among other personalities, Sánchez Ríos, specified that these Groups contribute to the metabolic control of diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, in those who make it up, favors self-care, adherence to treatment, improves people’s self-esteem and quality of life.
He said that, through this strategy, implemented in the First Level Care units of the six Health Jurisdictions of the entity, health surveillance and education does not begin or end in the medical units, “it extends to spaces outside the office and continues assuming responsibility to achieve personal well-being, and with mutual help among peers”, he said.
The state official congratulated the GAM EC “Salud y Bienestar” for managing to maintain adequate control of their cardiometabolic conditions for six months without interruption, whom she invited to be managers of change in other people around them, so that they Let more join this project, whose benefits are tangible in the medium and long term in society.
Likewise, he recognized the work of the personnel of the aforementioned Health Center, the number one Sanitary Jurisdiction “Central Valleys”, as well as the Directorate of Prevention and Promotion of the SSO, for strengthening this action in favor of the well-being of the inhabitants.
It should be noted that in Oaxaca there is a record of 167 active Mutual Aid Groups, five of them accredited, since within the guidelines to be awarded this award, its members must report adequate levels of disease control; In total, for this 2022, the GAMs have benefited more than 2,400 participants, and each year, an average of more than 50,000 patients join them.
