Woman climbs the Chichen Itza pyramid; ‘Jail! Sacrifice!’, asked tourists

This Sunday a woman climbed the pyramid of Chichen Itza, despite being forbiddenfor which she was booed and attacked by the rest of the tourists.

A video began to circulate on social networks in which a woman is observed climbing the stairs of the Kukulcán Castle of the Archaeological Zone. Upon reaching the top, the person began to dance, while the rest of the visitors booed her from below.

Later, a man who worked at the site came to the pyramid and ascended the stairs to escort the woman out of the compound. However, when she went down, the rest of the tourists began to attack her as she was removed from the place.

The visitors shouted and insulted, while pushing the woman. In the clip it is also observed that she pulls her hair and repeatedly throws water at her. Likewise, you can hear how they shout in chorus: ‘Jail!’ and ‘Sacrifice!’.

The event was classified as a disrespect by attendees, as well as by users on social networks.

According to the first reports, the woman was a native of Mexicali, Baja California. So far, the authorities have not ruled on the matter.

However, the Federal Law on Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Monuments establishes in article 55, that those who damage immovable archaeological monuments or violate the aforementioned legislation will receive a sanction.

“Any violation of this Law or its Regulations will be sanctioned by the competent Institutes with a fine of one hundred to fifty thousand pesos”, stipulates the document.

Chichen Itza is World Heritage declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) since 1988 and Wonder of the World since 2007.

In 2008, by order of the federal government, tourists and visitors in the different archaeological zones of the country were prohibited from ascending to pyramids or monuments.
