Volkswagen presented a new prototype for tomorrow that offers, in addition to one hundred percent electric efficiency, the maximum level of autonomous driving. What does this MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) offer and when does the German giant plan to bring this type of car into production. Swipe and look at the images.
To get into Volkswagen’s 100% electric fleet, all you have to do is enter the range of ID. To meet the first one hundred percent electric sedan, 2023 is the year set by the German manufacturer. To receive the previous stepping stone to the most advanced in autonomous driving, the Trinity Project, a futuristic saloon concept, is the candidate to become a production model in 2026.
While waiting for the next cars and their transition from a combustion factory to an electric vehicle factory, Volkswagen has mitigated them with a new concept car that, like the Trinity, aims to advance what its modular platforms will allow in terms of mobility, efficiency, travel experience and comfort.
The Volkswagen GEN TRAVEL was presented at the Chantilly Concours d’Elegance (Chantilly Arts & Elegance), near Paris on September 24, 2022. It is a one hundred percent electric concept that has autonomous driving that will be seen, according to the plans of the firm in the years to come. From the latter and beyond its mechanics, everything it offers inside is what defines it the most.
A realistic perspective of the mobility of the next decade.
Its modular platform gives the GEN.TRAVEL a versatility for tomorrow. The base has capacity for four passengers and the seats can be distributed according to the configuration chosen. They can be two rows of traditional seats, two rows of seats facing each other and separated by a table in the case of business trips, or seats lying down and converted into beds. It is, according to the Group, a mobility offer.
As for the technology applied to indoor use, there are three main proposals: sunglasses augmented reality (AR) to receive information about the tripan intelligent personal assistant and an ambient lighting system adaptable to the circumstances of the occupants: it helps to fall asleep if rest is needed and prevents motion sickness (motion sickness during travel).
Lacking pedals and a steering wheel, controls on the center stack are limited to sound settings, seating position, and climate control. To Level 5 autonomy, other attributes must be added that contribute to its driving efficiency, such as the suspension called eABC (Electric Active Body Control) that optimizes transfers by controlling the movements produced by acceleration, braking and cornering.
Presented by Volkswagen as Innovation Experience Vehicle (IEV), the new concept offers, in addition to all that has been said, two lateral openings in the shape of gull wings. With Level 4 autonomous driving guaranteed for the middle of the current decade -with Trinity Project It would already be a reality – it remains to be seen when we will become familiar with Tier 5 vehicles like the GEN.TRAVEL. From Volkswagen they advanced something by arguing that the reason for this electric is to expose “a realistic perspective of mobility for the next decade”.
