Order of formal imprisonment issued against José Luis Abarca and his wife for links with “Guerreros Unidos”

After new arrest warrants were filled out last week, a federal judge of the State of Mexico issued arrest warrant against him former mayor of Iguala, Jose Luis Abarca Velazquez, and his wife Maria de los Angeles Pineda Villafor the crimes of organized crimein its modality of crimes against health, for alleged links with the criminal group United Warriors.

Similarly, the head of the Second District Court of Federal Criminal Proceedings in the State of Mexico, Enrique Beltrán Santes, prosecuted the former Secretary of Public Security of Iguala, Felipe Flores Velázquez, for the probable crimes of forced disappearance and organized crime.

According to the investigations, Abarca Velázquez and Pineda Villa were accused by the protected witness with the code name “Juan”, identified as the former head of Guerreros Unidos hitmen, Gildardo López Astudillo, alias “El Gil”, who assured that José Luis Abarca and María de los Ángeles Pineda provided protection to that criminal organization.

To charge Abarca and Pineda Villa, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) also used as evidence the testimonies of the collaborating witness with the code name “Karla”, while against Felipe Flores, around 20 witnesses have testified to the effect that the former official also granted protection to Guerreros Unidos.
