Trolleybus crashes in test drive in Iztapalapa

A Trolleybus unit collided this Wednesday during a test drive in the San Andrés Tetepilco neighborhood, in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.

According to the Ministry of Mobility (Semovi), an aspiring driver and two instructors from the Electric Transportation Service (STE) were injured when the applicant lost control of the unit in the maneuvering yard and knocked down the perimeter fence.

The agency indicated that one of its instructors had to be taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

He also pointed out that there were no other people injured or material damage to third parties.

On September 11, the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, inaugurated the testing stage of the Elevated Trolleybus on a second floor where only trolleybuses travel, on a circuit that measures a total of eight kilometers and has 11 stations.

The capital authorities have promised that in just 20 minutes this line will run from the UACM Casa Libertad to Constitución de 1917.

“This unique electromobility project in the world will benefit 76,000 users daily, and will also have connections on Line 8 of the Metro and Line 2 of the Cablebus,” said the government of Mexico City.

The operational tests will conclude on October 15. In total, the Elevated Trolleybus fleet will have 26 units.
