To begin with, it is necessary to understand what postpartum is, also known as the puerperium, which can be defined as the period of time that runs from the end of childbirth until a more or less complete regression of the changes that the woman experienced during her pregnancy.
During this stage of motherhood, the female body can undergo changes, especially in the area of the abdomen, as was the case with Georgina Rodriguez. The gynecologist Mercedes Herrero Conde reported that during pregnancy it is normal to gain between 9 and 11 kilos of weight, of which around six and a half belong to the baby, the amniotic fluid and the placenta.

Therefore, he offered the following explanation about muscle and organ changes: “The uterus grows from the first days of pregnancy. Its size goes from a pear to a large watermelon. Its fibers multiply, as well as stretch. In weight, it represents an increase in tissue of approximately one kilo.

Another situation that is not taken into account is that the body can retain fluids after childbirth, which are lost during the following weeks. Although the uterine fibers contract in the postpartum period, they tend to remain a little larger than the original size.
In addition, the muscles also go through a process that does not always end up acquiring their previous position. Dr. Mercedes Herrero Conde declared about it:
“The pelvic floor is made up of muscles. These are elastic, but pregnancy first and childbirth, later, stretch these muscles. Hormones help these structures to be more elastic […] That tissue that has given itself, needs time to be able to recover its toning and position in the pelvis like the one it had prior to childbirth”.
Given the facts, it is unrealistic to expect that all women will leave the hospital slim and with a perfect figure the day after delivery. Each body has its own recovery rate, so criticism of the model’s body Georgina Rodriguez are left over.
