A little earlier, during the debate, the PVEM senator, Israel Zamora Guzmán, defended the academic career of Eduardo Villegas, stressed that the law does not prohibit his ratification and reiterated that the effectiveness of diplomacy in pointing out and that Mexico has condemned the invasion and the use of force.
Emilio Álvarez Icaza Longoria, senator of the Plural Group, questioned whether he is the best profile in the middle of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
On behalf of the PRI, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, highlighted the importance of the position, for which she said it is due for acting with a vision of the State, since a representative of the Mexican State is appointed and not of a government.
Faced with this, he spoke out against the appointment of Villegas because the discussion is about the profile that Mexico requires in the context of the international conflict.
Noé Fernando Castañón, senator of Movimiento Ciudadano, said the policy of the current government has been established in favor of the Russian side in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and has not proposed a position of conflict resolution.

He expressed his rejection against the appointment of Eduardo Villegas Megías, appointed as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Mexico to the Russian Federation and, concurrently, to the Republics of Armenia and Belarus.
The PT deputy, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, indicated that the opposition has become involved in a debate in which it intends to break diplomatic relations with Russia and stated that the career of Eduardo Villegas Megías is laudable and will contribute to improving diplomacy with Russia.
During the session, Carolina Zaragoza Flores, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Mexico to Ireland; Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Mexico to the Kingdom of Denmark.
Likewise, Eréndira Anguiano Rodríguez as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Mexico to Romania and concurrent to the Republic of Moldova; and María Victoria Romero Caballero as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Mexico to the Republic of Azerbaijan, who made a virtual protest.
