The prospects the Yankees sent to Oakland for Montas

The New York Yankees finally got their man when putting together a change for the Dominican ace Frankie Montás, in addition to reliever Lou Trivino, shoring up the Bronx Bombers’ pitching staff for the playoffs. The truth is that the Mulos were expected to give a considerable amount of quality prospects for the change, something that in the end, was not so expensive for New York.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the A’s acquired four prospects from the Yankees: left-handed pitchers Ken Waldichuk and JP Sears, plus right-handed pitcher Luis Medina and second baseman Cooper Bowman, thus completing the transaction that sent New York to Montas and Trivino.

The best prospect that the Yankees gave without a doubt is Waldichuk, who according to MLB Pipeline was considered the 5th best on his farm at the time of the change, while Medina was ranked 10th, with Sears and Bowman in 20th and 21st place. respectively. None of them were in the Top 100 of the best prospects in all of MLB.

Undoubtedly the best of them all is Waldichuk, since between Double A and Triple A he was having a season with 116 strikeouts in 76.1 innings worked with a 2.71 ERA, in addition to a 6-3 record.
