“He destroyed my life”: Sandra Ávila Beltrán accused Felipe Calderón of using her as a scapegoat

Sandra Avila Beltranalso known as “The Queen of the Pacific”, and who recently returned to public life, sent a direct message to the former president and architect of the so-called “War on Drugs”, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa.

Ávila Beltrán stated that she was the “scapegoat” of Calderón Hinojosa and pointed to him for having “destroyed life“, as well as the “will to live” and even indirectly causing the death of his mother.

“I want to say very especially to former President Felipe Calderón that his six-year term was the cruelest and most fatal that Mexico has ever had. The bloodiest according to statistics, I’m not saying. The six-year term where there were more human rights violations and where I was the scapegoat for him. I was the first person he stopped”, Said the 61-year-old woman, born in Baja California, in an interview she gave for the YouTube podcast “Double G”.

“The Queen of the Pacific” was arrested on February 28, 2007 along with her former partnerJuan Diego Espinosa, alias “El Tigre”, when both left a “Vips” restaurant in Mexico City. Then he was linked to some of the most important drug traffickers in the country, but his power in the underworld could never be proven in court.

During her defense, Ávila Beltrán at all times claimed that she was never involved in drug trafficking. She explained that she only supported her boyfriend. In fact, she Ávila Beltrán pleaded guilty to toasting “advice” and help her ex-partner escape.

“I want to emphasize the crime that they fabricated me. They stopped a lady at the airport with money they said was mine. They issued an arrest warrant for me. Because of that order I lost my mother, many years in prison and I entered a place of suffering that I would not wish on anyone,” said the woman who spent eight years in prisons in the US and Mexico.

“(Felipe Calderón) fabricated a crime for me in order to feel like a good president or a good Mexican, when he collaborated directly with the cartels. From them he received much of the fortune he has now, which his wife and family enjoy. And who judges him? Because García Luna is prosecuted and Calderón is not. Calderón was a murderer and a drug trafficker. It destroyed my life. The will to live,” she explained.

On February 7, 2015, Sandra Ávila Beltrán was released from prison. However, at one point in the interview she confessed that, contrary to what other inmates experience when they regain their freedom, that period was “very sad” for her due to a personal situation that she had to face just after leaving prison.

“There were two people that I hoped to find, and who I knew would be happy with my departure. My mother and my son… but I no longer found my mother”, he said with tears in his eyes and a broken voice.

In the rest of the interview, which lasted almost an hour and a quarter, the woman shared personal details such as her taste for tequila, as opposed to wine, beer or coffee, as well as her predilection for norteño or banda music. and the Mexican rock group Maná.

He also said that in his childhood he never lacked for anything, because he grew up in a family with economic resources. She confessed that her first courtship was when she was 15 years old and that, although she did not finish it, she enrolled in a career in communication sciences and journalism.

“I really like journalism, I really like communication, but real communication. Tell people what is really going on. not invent. Not to talk about more, ”she expanded.

Regarding the issue of drug legalization, she said that she is not in favor of “drugs that kill, of synthetic drugs”.

His first jobs, he assured, were through “several friends” of his parents who asked him for favors such as buying clothes, making bank deposits or accompanying them to a certain place. “I had no salary, everything was given to me. I was doing very well“, he claimed.

He explained that he was married twice and had two children, although one of them died three days after birth. He said that he does not consider himself a successful person because his longing was to have a family with four children and a home.

On how he likes men, he replied that he is attracted to “intelligent”, “leaders”, “winners”, regardless of their physique. “For you to love a man, you have to admire him”. He also assured that she currently does not have a partner.
