At makeshift facilities outside the destroyed clinic in Gyan, efforts are being made to help injured people who have nowhere else to go.

“Of 500 patients who came to the clinic since morning, 200 died.”

That is the telling account of Muhammad Gul, a staff member at a small clinic in Gyan, eastern Afghanistan.

The facility has only five beds, but Tuesday’s earthquake rendered even these meager resources unusable.

“All the rooms in the clinic have been destroyed,” he told the BBC.
