On the occasion of the next LGBT+ march in Mexico City, Lucia Mendez decided to do drag as a token of appreciation to the committees that invited her to be their queen.

This June 22, Lucía Méndez shared the result of the transformation that artists carried out on her to be able to personify her as a drag queen. As she shared, she accepted her invitation to transform because had to decline to be crowned by two committees next Saturday, during the LGBT+ Pride March, for work commitments in the United States.

Lucía confessed that she did not know that the process to become a drag queen could be so long, so she is very surprised and applauded the dedication that the artists put into achieving a change in appearance.

“Two committees invited me to be their queen, but I can’t because I have an engagement on Saturday, so they asked me to dress up as a dredger. They had already told me other times, I didn’t know it takes five hours. Five hours took the arrangement. Indeed, being a draga is being a bitch (…) The makeup is very impressive because it is very creative, and above all the talent that they have when they are on stage is very applaudable”, he said in a short meeting with the press.

“What I have learned from within is the great affection I have for the community, not because they are going to fill places for me or for anything like that, because, somehow, that is fashionable, the community. I have supported them all my life.”

Likewise, in the meeting with the press, she mentioned that, for her, the LGBT+ community has been a fundamental part of her career, which is why she has sought to return the support they have given her. She remembered that for a time she devoted herself to prevent suicides in the communitywhich earned her a GLAAD Award Honorable Mention in 2009.

“I presume it and I say it with a lot of dignity and with a lot of pride, they gave me the GLAAD with honorable mention for avoiding suicides. One year I dedicated myself to that, of children from 10 to 20 years old who committed suicide (…) At that time, I understood that I loved them very much, who are very sensitive, my best friends. They have given me very great things in my career, in fashion, in makeup, ”recalled Méndez.
