Dr. Marcia Cruz Correa, gastroenterologist and government director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Puerto Rico was elected by vote as a brand new member of the Board of Directors of the Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) together with different leaders of most cancers facilities within the United States.
AACI is a prestigious affiliation representing the 102 most cancers facilities within the United States and Canada, whose mission is to speed up progress towards most cancers by empowering these most cancers facilities to alleviate the struggling and burden attributable to most cancers. The UPR Comprehensive Cancer Center has been a member of this affiliation since March 2020.
AACI members elected Dr.. Robert Winn, director of the VCU Massey Cancer Center as vice-president / president-elect of its Board of Directors, and Dr. Marcia Cruz-Correa, from the UPR Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Ruben Mesa Mays Cancer Center, Dr.. Robert H. Vonderheide of the Abramson Cancer Center and Dr. Joann sweasy from the University of Arizona Cancer Center as new members of the stated Board.
“It is an honor and pride to be part of this new Board of Directors of AACI 2021 and above all to represent the UPR Comprehensive Cancer Center to collaborate and contribute to the improvement of the fight against cancer at the national level. Being a member of the Board solidifies relationships with the leaders of other cancer centers and allows knowing and being at the forefront of clinical advances, research and treatments of this condition, the main cause of death in Puerto Rico ”indicated the Dr. Marcia Cruz-Correa, gastroenterologist oncologist, researcher and professor on the School of Medicine of the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico.
Dr. Cruz-Correa additionally serves as Principal Investigator for the Hispanic Alliance for Clinical and Translational Research (AACR), is Professor of Surgical Oncology on the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Associate Professor of Medicine on the School of Johns Hopkins University Medicine.
